Don’t Grow Weary

Thayne Sparke

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.                                               Galatians 6:9-10

I always have a certain motivation at the beginning of the new year to do the things that I know I need to do to better myself. It typically has to do with getting in better shape or shedding a couple of pounds. So I begin counting my calories and working out and I usually lose some weight. However, after a certain amount of time... I get tired. I get tired of counting calories. I get tired of being out of breath. I get tired of the sit-ups. I get tired of trying to make the time to fit the workout in… And after a while, I typically stop doing what I know is good for me and my health…

I wonder if we ever experience this same thing in other aspects of life?

I wonder if we ever get tired of trying to think of others more than ourselves. I wonder if we ever get tired of serving others? I wonder if we get tired of sacrificing our own time and schedule for the sake of serving someone else?

Do you ever get tired of doing good?

Paul, in the book of Galatians, encourages us… Well, actually tells us with strong language to “not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

As easy as it is to rationalize the reasons to not persevere and not continue to consistently do good, we must not compromise. We must do the right thing.

So as we think about being “FOR” people, may we not grow weary. The benefits for our own spiritual health would include maturity, increased faith, and boldness. But the benefits to others are about their eternity and a faithful witness of the church as the church takes care of it's people! May we not grow weary in doing good… in sharing the love of Jesus to those around us!

Action Step for the Tip-for-Today

Here is a place where you can do the "tip-for-today."

Tip for Today: Do one thing today for someone that you know you need to do, but do not want to do it.
